Not your mom’s Bible Reading Plan

Posted: January 6, 2011 in Uncategorized

Hope is a beautiful & mysterious word.  I don’t know everything about it, but here’s what I do know:

It sustains

It births and builds dreams

It’s sturdier than I think

It brings life to dead places and healing to sick people

Sometimes it’s the one and only thing worth waking up for

It’s contagious

It brings clarity to confusion

And purpose to pain

It revives

Refreshes

Rebuilds

Hope is potent and so a little goes a long way

It does not disappoint.

Hope.

If you are needing a little hope right now, or if you’d like to start out your new year with a topical Bible reading plan –  good news! –  I made one for you.  The chapter is listed first and then the specific verse which mentions hope is in parenthesis.  Read as much of the chapter as you need to establish context, and keep in mind that some versions will choose words like ‘wait’ or ‘stay’ or ‘tarry’ instead of hope.  When you read, ask yourself the questions:

  • Who is writing this and to whom?
  • What are their current circumstances?
  • In what are they placing their hope?
  • How would a healthy dose of hope impact their situation?

Wouldn’t it be nice to spend the next 25 days in a place called Hope?

  • Day 1:   Job 6 (11) & Acts 2 (26)
  • Day 2:  Job 13 (15) & Romans 4 (18)

  2. Arlene Tatum says:

Hope is what I need….hope in taking one step at a time, the right step, in this marvelous journey, in Rwanda, that the Savior has me on. Thanks for sharing, I’m looking forward to a powerful journey of “hope” through His Word.

  3. Very good. I like your questions. It does open up a text and make it richer.

  4. Susie Kay says:

Thank you for this. One of my life verses is Romans 5:3-5. I have hung on tenaciously to that scripture during my transformation. The Word builds up and sustains – if we know what it says. Thanks again.
