Luke 24:5 “Why are you looking for the living among the dead? asked the men. “He is not here, but He has been resurrected!”
I’m struck this morning that so many people will go to their churches and sift through the rubble of dead works and dead motives and dead plans to try to find the living Jesus. They’ll search and seek and “maybe that was Him?” and wonder and hope. Or, they’ll just manage and reorganize their death, rearranging the pieces to convince themselves that – though it may be faint – God still has a pulse. In a lifeless world, it’s easy to prop our religion up on two legs and push it along like some kind of transcendent version of Weekend at Bernie’s.
I’m desperately hungry for the living Jesus…the Jesus that doesn’t have to squeeze His way in through a window we forgot to shut. I’m so thankful to be a part of a church that is increasingly throwing the doors open to His presence. Oh, Holy Spirit, I give You permission to remove from me the “prove it” default that makes me run Your life through a grid of death. Show me how to become newly in touch, aware and intimate with You.
Behold: The real and risen and abundantly alive Jesus. When He shows up, it changes everything.
