Wipeout

Last week, I mentioned that I didn’t know who recorded the song Wipeout. Well, in the interest of thorough and accurate reporting (and also with help from Aida), I have discovered that both The Surfaris and The Ventures took a crack at that iconic tune. In the the course of my research, some brilliant videos were unearthed. Here ‘s The Ventures doing Wipeout live. What really strikes me here is how active this song sounds and how inactive it looks. I do love their big choreography move when they all turn to the drummer:

In other very distantly related news. Josiah’s favorite TV show is Wipeout. And by “favorite”, I mean “he’s obsessed”. I feel strongly that a steady diet of this show will make you stupid, but I’m a sucker for hearing the kid laugh and nothing does it like this.

Please send some long division flash cards ASAP.

The flash cards are on their way! How about a game of Scrabble while you wait? 🙂

Yes, that was quite the move wasn’t it?

That “inactive” choreography was the standard of the day.
Few groups moved sideways and back and forth if there was any movement at all.

Elvis was the first and the “wildest” to move to any music in the early days of Rock ‘n roll. The Supremes moved a little. Ike and Tina Turner moved a little.

In the 60’s that was how they sang to their music…hardly moving at all.

Displays of sexuality was a big no no in those days unlike the soft to hard porn we have now! No tempting the youth! Who knows what will become of them!

Good job on the thorough research, little miss BO

I’m dating myself, however I just have to say that Wipeout by the Ventures (Ventures a Go Go album) was a favorite when I was in the 6th grade and we made up some pretty sweet dance moves to it….of course we only had access to about 4 record albums, two were Beatles, the Ventures and someone’s mom had a Bobby…what’s his name the heartthrob of 68. Just thinking about it makes me feel young.

Haha! That is hilariously inactive! Except for the drummer who has apparently been shot up with adrenaline.:)
